A writer friend, Kathie, invited me to participate in a fiction writers’ blog hop. She sent a list of questions to answer about a book I’m writing. To keep the blog hop hopping, I’m to introduce another fiction author.
So here goes:
What is the name of your character?
Margaret Mary McRooney, but affectionately known as Maggie.
When and where is the story set?
The story takes place in a small coal region town in Pennsylvania around 1964.
What should we know about her?
Maggie is a fourteen-year-old girl growing up in the coal region. She lives with her parents and five-year-old brother who drives her crazy. Her vibrant Lithuanian grandmother also plays an important part in Maggie’s life and teaches Maggie how to make Lithuanian Easter eggs; a thrill for Maggie until her brother gets a hold of one. But that’s not the only trouble her brother gets into; he’s filled with adventure and antics. How many times does Maggie have to keep a watch out for this little guy?
What is the main conflict? What messes up her life?
Maggie feels that her life revolves around her little brother as she struggles to grow up. One moment, he’s a pesky little mosquito, and the next moment, Maggie adores him. He’s quirky, funny, and loves his big sister; but Maggie does some mighty fast growing up when her brother gets into a frightening situation, and, of course, she blames herself. Besides her brother messing up her life at times, Maggie has a “not always so nice” neighborhood girl to deal with who is always popping up at the wrong time; and, not only that, is friends with Tommy… Maggie’s big-time crush.
What is the personal goal of the character? From little-brother annoyances to dealing with friends to frightening situations, Maggie has to go through a lot to figure out how to deal with everything going on in her life.
Is there a working title for this novel? Still working on a title for the young lady growing up in a coal town in the 1960s.
When can we expect the book to be published? If all goes well, sometime in 2015.
